Headaches do not necessarily indicate a serious health issue, but they are extremely unpleasant and cause a huge discomfort. However, before you reach for painkillers, you should try to alleviate the pain using natural remedies.
Our body contains multiple acupressure points, which if stimulated, can help you relieve headaches and various types of pains in the body within 5-10 minutes.
Acupressure is the technique that uses the application of slight force or pressure to such pressure points on the body, in order to treat various ailments and health issues, including headaches.
Acupressure is derived from the ancient Chinese healing method of acupuncture. The traditional Chinese medicine believes that acupressure works by balancing the energy flow of the body, while modern scientists maintain that it improves circulation, relieves muscle tension, and increases the levels of endorphins in the body.
These pressure points are actually nerves found in various body areas, which regulate the circulation of blood.
Headaches, especially if they are a result of anxiety, menstruation, or common colds, happen due to stiffness and tightness in the area of the neck and face muscles, that inhibit blood circulation.
Therefore, their stimulation by massage relaxes the tight muscles, and boosts circulation, and thus offers headache relief.
Here is how to use these points to soothe your headache:
Zan Zhu Points- These points are located at the top of the eyebrow bone, at the beginning of the nose. Massage them in circular motions to soothe a headache and improve vision.
Shuai Gu Points- You can find this point above the ear, a few centimeters from the start of the hairline. Its stimulation with the index finger will relieve headaches, alleviate eye fatigue, and balance the nervous system.
YinTang Point- This point is located in the center of the forehead, between the eyes. Squeeze it gently with the middle and the index finger and hold for a few seconds to soothe the pain.
He Gu Points: Squeeze this point, which is located in the webbing of the skin between the thumb and index finger for a few seconds, to relieve headaches and nausea.
Pericardium: Massage the spot on your wrist about three inches from the bottom of the palm gently using the middle and the index finger, in order to treat headaches, vomiting, and nausea.
Ying Xiang Points- These spots are on the sides of the nostrils, above the lips. Massage them to open the sinuses, lower stress, and alleviate headaches.
Sacral Points: Lie down on the back, and massage these points, found directly above the tailbone, at the base of the spine, for a few minutes, to soothe menstrual pain and cramps.
Tian Zhu Points- These points can be found on the back of the head in the center of the neck. You can alleviate a migraine and treat eye and ear pain by massaging them and applying a firm pressure.
