Hand dryers in public bathrooms are not as hygienic as we think, according to the recent study on virus dispersal.
The study examines the virus dispersal of three different methods of hand washing: paper towels, conventional “warm air” dryers and “jet dryers”.
It was discovered that “jet dryers” spread 60 times more viral plaque – forming units than the “warm air” dryers and 1,300 times more than the paper towels. They found that jet dryers can fling viruses up to 3 meters (10 feet), while the standard warm air dryers only managed 75 centimeters (2.5 feet) and hand towels just 25 centimeters (10 inches).
The study included participants who wore gloves and wash their hands in a suspension of viruses. They were supposed to dry their hands with one of the hand – drying methods to see the results which one of them will spread the viruses the most.
Creators of the hand – drying were revolted of the study and they put the blame on the paper towel industries, with explanation that the study was commissioned by the towel industry producers.
Even if you wash your hand properly, there is still possible option to get ill from the viruses blasted from across the public bathrooms.
We should avoid the usage of hand dryers as much as we can!
